Softball to Host Cowgirl Classic

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team returns to Stillwater this weekend when they host New Mexico and No. 14/16 South Alabama for the Cowgirl Classic, at Cowgirl Stadium. Games are set to begin Friday at 5 p.m.
OSU (15-9) will open the Cowgirl Classic Friday evening,when the Cowgirls take on New Mexico (8-15) in a double header starting at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Oklahoma State will take on South Alabama (20-3) at 3 p.m., and wrap up play Sunday when they face the Jaguars again at noon.
New Mexico and South Alabama will play each other Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Cowgirls hold a 21-7 all-time series record against New Mexico. The last time the two teams met was last season when OSU defeated the Lobos, 11-0, in five innings, and 6-1, respectively, on March 22, 2013, in Albuquerque, N.M. This will be the first meeting between Oklahoma State and South Alabama.
The Cowgirls are looking to rebound after a heartbreaking 4-3 defeat at the hands of North Texas on March 12.
Offensively, the Cowgirls are hitting .301 as a team. Shelby Davis continues to lead Oklahoma State in batting average (.393), at bats (89), hits (35), stolen bases (18) and total bases (38). Tiffany Mikkelson leads the team in doubles (five), runs batted in (22), walks (15), slugging percentage (.552) and on-base percentage (.452). Tarah Ettinger leads OSU in home runs, while Ari Morrison leads the squad with 20 runs scored.
In the circle, Simone Freeman (11-4) has a 1.45 earned run average. She's started 15 games and has made a total of 18 appearances, registering 11 complete games and four shutouts. In 101.2 innings, she's given up 27 runs and struck out 143. Whitney Whitehorn (4-4) sports a 2.26 ERA in nine starts. In 40.1 innings, she's allowed 20 runs and struck out 20 batters.
Nationally, Freeman leads the country in total strikeouts with 143, while Davis ranks 14th in stolen bases.
