Cowgirls Rout Long Beach State

Palm Springs, Calif. - The Oklahoma State softball team defeated Long Beach State 8-0 in six innings during the second day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic here in Palm Springs, Calif.
The Cowgirls (9-4) jumped ahead early, manufacturing a run in the bottom of the second inning when Danielle Riddle scored on an error by the Long Beach State shortstop to take a 1-0 lead.
An inning later, OSU added a couple of runs on a two-run blast by Tarah Ettinger, her second home run of the season, over the left field wall, scoring Ari Morrison, who led the inning off with a single. Two batters later, Tiffany Mikkelson scored on a single to extend the Cowgirl lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cowgirls continued to pour on the runs. Mikkelson drove in Morrison and Ettinger with her second double of the night. She then scored on an RBI single by Riddle to put OSU up 7-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, Morrison led the inning off with a single, and Ettinger crushed the game-ending RBI double to left center, scoring Morrison to cement the 8-0 Cowgirl victory.
Simone Freeman (6-2) dominated in the circle, pitching six innings, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out six.
The Cowgirls explosive offense pounded out 11 hits. Mikkelson went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Ettinger went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Morrison went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Riddle went 2-for2 with an RBI and a run scored. Shannon Kaufman also had a base hit for the Cowgirls.
The Cowgirls return to action Sunday for the final day of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic when they take on Cal State Northridge at 4 p.m. C,T and close out competition against San Diego State at 6:30 p.m. Fans can follow the action through GameTracker or via Twitter at @CowgirlSB.
