Cowgirls Set for Rematch with No. 4 Kansas State

STILLWATER –
The No. 6 Oklahoma State equestrian team will return to action for its first home match of the spring against No. 4 Kansas State. The match will begin at 10 a.m. CST at the Animal Science Arena.

About the Cowgirls
Oklahoma State is 4-2 this season, with a 1-2 record against the Big 12. The Cowgirls are coming off back-to-back road wins over Delaware State, 16-4, and then-No. 2 Auburn, 11-9.
Know the Foe
“The team has been riding really well and is looking forward to this weekend.” Coach Larry Sanchez said. "K-State is a very good team and we are ready for the challenge"
The No. 4 Kansas State Wildcats are 7-3 this season and 1-2 in conference play. The Cowgirls and Wildcats have faced off once this season on Sept. 28, with K-State earning the close victory, 11-9. OSU leads the all-time series, 17-8.
OSU in the Rankings
The Cowgirls are ranked sixth in the latest Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll. OSU has been ranked as high as No. 4 this season.
Western Dominance
OSU's Western team is 5-0-1 and has not lost a match since Mar. 29, 2013. The average margin of victory for the Western squad this season is 3.5 points. The success in the Western division is in large part due to the 5-1 horsemanship team led by senior Lauren Halvorson and junior Katy Krshka. Both earned first team All-American Honors last season. Halvorson is 4-2 this season and holds a 37-13-1 record, while Krshka is 6-0 this season in the discipline and boasts a career record of 38-3. Junior Lindsey McMullen and sophomore Ty Paris are 5-1 this season.
Dynamic Duo
Senior Ali Rose is 5-1 this season in the Equitation discipline and earned Most Outstanding Performer in the win over TCU with a score of 86-63. Freshman Jorden Davis has immediately made her presence known in the Equitation discipline with a perfect 5-0 record and is 8-2 in the Hunter Seat event.
Most Outstanding Performers
In the weekend matches against Delaware State and Auburn, the Cowgirls took seven of the eight possible Most Outstanding Performer awards. In the match against Delaware State, OSU swept all four honors. Senior Samantha Harrison earned three honors in the two days of competition. Against Delaware State, Harrison defeated Haley Jeske in equitation, 94-71, and Emily Fick in over fences, 89-71. In the match against Auburn, Harrison defeated Quincy Hayes in over fences, 90-55. Katy Krshka earned the honor for her win in the horsemanship discipline against Delaware State's Cailynn Fedorkowicz, 73.5-71. Also in on that day, Mackenzie Fugitt defeated Darby Mailhot, 71-68.5, to earn her first honor of the season. Against Auburn, Ali Rose picked up Most Outstanding Performer in the equitation discipline for her win over Christina Lin, 93-43. In the reining discipline, Jenna Blumer defeated Hailey Munger by a score of 71.5-68.
Elser Collegiate Equitation Challenge Reserve Champion
Senior Sammy Elser finished second at the Winter Equestrian Festival Collegiate Equitation Challenge on Feb. 7 in Wellington, Fla., earning Reserve Champion honors. The competition was a head-to-head bracket-style format in the over fences discipline featuring 16 NCEA and IHSA riders. In the first round, Elser defeated Caitlin Ader of TCU in a close matchup, 73-70. The next round, Elser dominated with an impressive 85-70 win over SMU's Juliana Fisher. In the round of four, Elser tallied an 80-75 score over Hannah Williams of Texas A&M to move to the final round of the tournament. In the championship match, Elser suffered a close defeat to South Carolina's Katherine Schmidt, 83-80. The WEF is the world's largest and longest running equestrian competition featuring horses from all over the world.
Krshka Named Big 12 Rider of the Month
Katy Krshka was named the Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Month for November. She defeated South Dakota State's Danielle Dickerson 76.5-70.5 on Nov. 2 en route to a Cowgirl sweep in the discipline. On Nov. 16, Krshka defeated TCU's Taylor Gillete 77.5-74.5, which earned her Most Outstanding Performer for the event. She was also crowned the winner of the AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge.
