Oklahoma State From a Distance
After starting 7-0 for the second consecutive season, Oklahoma State traveled to Columbia, S.C. for its first true road game of the season last Saturday and dropped a 75-49 contest to South Carolina. The Cowboys won their first seven games by an average margin of 23.4 points per game, with their closest outcome a 66-53 win over Oregon State.
Through eight games, coach Travis Ford has fielded five different starting lineups and has gone deep into his bench, with 11 different Cowboys averaging 12.1 minutes played per game or more.
The Cowboys' lineup includes two of the Big 12's top-three leading scorers in senior Le'Bryan Nash, a 6-foot-7 forward, and junior Phil Forte, a 5-foot-11 guard. A pair of forwards lead the Tigers' attack as 6-foot-9 junior Shaq Goodwin is averaging 11.8 points and seven rebounds per game, while 6-8 sophomore Austin Nichols averages over 10 points and three blocked shots per contest.
Sixth-year head coach Josh Pastner's squad has been stout defensively, ranking fifth nationally in blocked shots per game at 7.2 and allowing opponents to shoot just 37 percent from the field.
