Cowgirl Tennis Competes in Second Day of Dickie V Classic

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team participated in day two of the Dickie V Clay Court Classic on Saturday, highlighted by four singles wins from the squad.
Cowgirl sophomore Katarina Adamovic advanced to the semifinals of the singles main draw with her win over fourth-seeded Stephanie Stojic of Florida in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. She will face UF's Spencer Liang in Sunday's semifinals.
Maria Alvarez also notched a quarterfinals win with ease, when she defeated Victoria Olivarez of Tennessee, 6-3, 6-2. The Cowgirl later fell in the semis to No. 1-seed Brenda Woolcock of Florida. Woolcock took the first set, 6-1, but Alvarez refused to go down easily, battling in the second to take the set to a tiebreaker but eventually losing, 7-6(7).
In singles consolation, Carla Tur Mari earned two wins, both in straight sets. Tur Mari gave up just two games in her first match of the day, defeating North Florida's Rebecca Pereira, 6-2, 6-0. She went on to take out Emily Safron of Boston College in the conso semifinals, 7-5, 6-4. She will face Quetzali Vazquez of North Florida in Sunday's finals.
In doubles, top-seeded Adamovic and Vladica Babic advanced to the finals after posting an 8-3 win over Calderon/Vazquez from North Florida in the semis. They'll take on No. 2 Liang and Stojic on Sunday for the title.
Alvarez and Tur Mari fell in the semifinals to Liang/Stojic, 8-7(1), ending their run at the tourney.
