NEW YORK CITY – Oklahoma State's women's tennis players Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente posted a solid showing in the first day of competition at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
To start the day, Lushkova, seeded eighth in the singles bracket, won her first match to advance to Friday's second round of competition. She took the first set from McKenzie Davis of Utah State, 6-4, and didn't slow down, dominating the second set, 6-1. She will face Caroline Price of North Carolina on Friday at 8 a.m. CT.
Lushkova then paired up with teammate Laurente for the doubles portion of the event. The Cowgirl duo went head to head with Virginia's Mercer and Morton, who they defeated in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, to send them to the next round. In their second match of the day, they took on the fourth-seeded Manasse/Starr duo from Cal. The Cowgirls battled and came out victorious with the 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 win. Lushkova and Laurente are set to face Austin and Keegan of Florida in Friday's quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m.
