STILLWATER, Okla. -
Oklahoma State cross country coach Dave Smith has been named the Big 12 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the seventh-consecutive season, the conference announced today.
The award comes after Smith led the men's cross country team to its seventh-straight Big 12 Championship in Lawrence, Kan., last weekend. At the meet, Kirubel Erassa took first place in the men's 8K race, giving Smith his fifth individual conference champion since 2008. The Cowboys also had seven runners finish in the top 12, helping the team finish with 27 points.
In addition to seven conference championships, Smith has produced three national championships, 22 All-Americans and 47 All-Big 12 selections in only nine seasons as head coach.
Smith and the Cowboys will return to action at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 14, before battling for a national title at the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22. For more updates and information, follow @Run4OKState on Twitter.
