Cowgirls Fall to No. 8 TCU
November 01, 2014 | Cowgirl Equestrian
SPRINGTOWN, Texas - The Oklahoma State equestrian team came up short of notching its first conference win of the season on Saturday, falling, 11-7, on the road to 8th-ranked TCU.
"There were some places where we rode very well and there were others that we need to improve on," Cowgirl equestrian coach Larry Sanchez said. "I told the girls that the season is a journey. It's about continually getting better so we can be at our best when we get to the postseason."
The Cowgirls (1-2, 0-2 Big 12) edged the Horned Frogs, 5-3-2, in the western events behind a pair of strong performances by senior Katy Krshka.
Krshka garnered Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) honors in reining for the third-consecutive meet this season after knocking off Brooke Boyle of TCU, 71-66.5. Freshman Danielle Cohen picked up her second win of the season with a 69.5-68.5 victory over TCU's Kelly Gray. Cowgirl freshman Julia Purus tied Alexi Child with a score of 69.5, and Ebba Lange scored 70 on her ride to tie with TCU's Shelby St. Hilaire.
The Cowgirls took a 3-2 win in horsemanship to wrap up the western portion of the meet. Krshka defeated TCU's Rylee Morgan, 72.5-71, in her second ride of the day. Senior Lindsey McMullen remained perfect on the season, edging Erin Gillette, 70.5-70. Ty Paris posted a 73-0 triumph over Sarah Ann Pendergraft.
The Horned Frogs proved to be too much to handle in equitation over fences, shutting out the Cowgirls, 5-0.
With a chance to force a tie and take the meet by having the advantage in raw scores, the Cowgirls threatened early in equitation on the flat by taking two of the event's first three points; however, the Horned Frogs shut the door on the Cowgirls' hopes with two late victories. Cowgirl freshman Katie Jones downed Nikki Diamantis of TCU in an 80-68 win. Sophomore Jorden Davis tallied the second Cowgirl point when she knocked off Kari Hancock, 80-68. TCU took equitation on the flat, 3-2.
The Cowgirls will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 8, when they take on No. 2 Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., at 10 a.m.
