Cowgirl Tennis Finishes First Day in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – Members of the Oklahoma State women's tennis team wrapped up the first day of action at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational, highlighted by a singles win by senior Karyn Guttormsen.
The day started with doubles action, where Cowgirl duo Maria Alvarez and Carla Tur Mari faced the third-seeded Borthwick/Fanning duo of FSU. The Seminoles bested the Cowgirls in a tough 8-5 battle.
Both Cowgirls, along with Guttormsen, went on to singles competition.
Guttormsen advanced in the championship bracket with a 6-3, 7-6(4) win over Central Florida's Caroline Eberhardt in the first round. She will continue play on Friday.
Tur Mari and Alvarez were each knocked into the consolation bracket with first-round singles losses.
Tur Mari suffered a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Sinead Lohan of the University of Miami, and Alvarez fell to Clementina Riobueno of Miami after forcing the match to a third set, 6-3, 3-6, 2-6.
The two Cowgirls are guaranteed at least two matches in Friday's consolation bracket.
