Cowgirl Softball Trio Honored For Academic Success

Three members of the 2013-14 Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball squad have been awarded NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Thursday.
Junior infielder Danielle Riddle, junior shortstop Michaela Patton and former pitcher Simone Freeman received the accolade, given to student-athletes with a 3.5 grade-point average or higher.
The Cowgirls' latest academic recognition adds on to a successful year in in the classroom, as six members of OSU's 2013-14 lineup were named to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 team, including Freeman, who was selected to the conference squad for the third-consecutive year. The Sydney, Australia, native will graduate in December with a degree in health education and promotion, capping off a stellar career with the Cowgirls both on and off the field.
Riddle, a speech pathology major from Muskogee, Okla., earns the honor after a career year at the plate in 2014. Her .336 batting average was the third-highest mark on the team last season, helping her land a spot on the 2014 NFCA All-Midwest Region team. Riddle and Patton both become first-time selections for the NFCA Scholar-Athlete squad
