Cowgirls Put On Offensive Show in 13-1 Victory
October 15, 2014 | Cowgirl Softball
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball team capped off its final home exhibition game of the fall season on Wednesday night by defeating Rogers State, 13-1, at Cowgirl Stadium.
OSU (5-1) provided fireworks from the plate in its home finale, as six Cowgirls recorded multi-hit efforts against the Hillcats. Oklahoma State led for the game's entirety, as Tiffany Mikkelson's first-inning grand slam over the right field fence put the Cowgirls on top for good.
After Mikkelson's homer, the Cowgirls continued their relentless offensive attack with two runs in the following two frames. Maddi Holcomb scored on a passed ball and Vanessa Shippy swatted an RBI triple in the second before Miranda Cavin recorded a solo shot in the third, extending the OSU lead to 7-1.
Oklahoma State added three more runs in the sixth inning. After Shippy knocked in Holcomb with a double into the left-center gap, Mikkelson went deep again on a two-run HR over the left field foul pole, pushing her RBI count on the night to six.
Brandi Needham, Meagan Lively and Jessi Haffner helped the Cowgirls provide an equally impressive performance in the circle. Needham concluded her first start of the fall with only one earned run over four innings, while Lively kept the RSU bats hitless through a four-inning stretch of her own. Haffner pitched the fifth and the tenth in relief, allowing one hit while striking out one.
The Cowgirls will make their final appearance of their fall exhibition season on Monday, Oct. 20, when Oklahoma State travels to Tulsa for a doubleheader against the Golden Hurricane. For more updates and information, follow @CowgirlSB on Twitter.
