Cowgirl Softball Hosts Rogers State
October 14, 2014 | Cowgirl Softball
The Oklahoma State Cowgirl softball team will take on Rogers State in a ten-inning fall exhibition game Wednesday night at the Cowgirl Softball Complex, concluding its slate of fall scrimmages in Stillwater. First pitch for the home finale is set for 5 p.m., and admission is free.
Through five games this fall, the Cowgirls have compiled a 4-1 record behind victories over Eastern Oklahoma State, NOC-Enid, Southern Nazarene and Arkansas. The team's lone defeat came in its last appearance, when Oklahoma State split a doubleheader with the Razorbacks in Stillwater on Oct. 5.
Going into Wednesday's game, freshman Vanessa Shippy leads the way at the plate with ten RBIs, eight runs and a batting average of .600. Fellow freshmen Bailey Donathan and Maddie Holcomb have been hot at the dish as well, hitting .500 and .400, respectively.
Meagan Lively has earned the start in the circle in each of the Cowgirls' five fall scrimmages, allowing only one earned run through 16 innings while striking out 17. Brandi Needham has recorded extensive time on the mound as well, registering a 4.38 ERA and 13 K's over four appearances.
Rogers State's squad is made up of six returning members of the Hillcats' 2013-14 campaign and 12 newcomers, including pitcher Aubrey Voboril, who transferred to RSU after being named to the ICCAC All-Region IX First Team in the spring. The Hillcats finished 18-35 last year in their first season as members of the Heartland Conference (DII).
