Know the Foe
“We are very excited for this weekend.” Coach Larry Sanchez said. “I know the girls are all ready to get back out there and compete. As coaches, I believe that all the girls that we are bringing with us will be ready to compete. We are looking forward to a successful weekend if everything goes as planned.”
The No. 2 Auburn Tigers are 6-1 this season with wins over Georgia (12-8) and Baylor (10-9); both were the top-ranked team at the time. Last season, the Cowgirls split two matchups with the Tigers. The Cowgirls dropped the season opener, 10-9, in Auburn, Ala. In the quarterfinals of the NCEA National Championships, the Cowgirl western team defeated the Tigers, 5-3. The Delaware State Hornets are 2-5 this season with wins over No. 9 SMU (9-6) and Sacred Heart (10-1). Last season, the Cowgirls defeated the Hornets, 15-3, in Martin, Tenn. Since the 2006-07 season, the Cowgirls are 3-8 against Auburn and 3-0 against Delaware State.
OSU In The Rankings
The Cowgirls are ranked seventh in the latest Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll. OSU has been ranked as high as No. 4 this season.
Western Dominance
OSU's Western team is 4-0 and is on a nine-game win streak dating back to Mar. 29, 2013. The average margin of victory for the Western squad this season is 4.25 points. The success in the Western division is in large part due to the 4-0 Horsemanship team led by Senior Lauren Halvorson and Junior Katy Krshka. Both earned first team All-American Honors last season. Halvorson is 3-1 this season and holds a 36-12-1 record, while Krshka is 4-0 this season in the discipline and boasts a career record of 36-3. Krshka also competes in the Reining portion and earned Most Outstanding Performer honors against South Dakota State on Nov. 2. Along with Krshka, Lindsey McMullen and Ty Paris are 4-0 this season and Halvorson and Paris Nottingham are 3-1 this season within the discipline.
Krshka Named Big 12 Rider of the Month
Katy Krshka was named the Big 12 Horsemanship Rider of the Month for November. She defeated South Dakota State's Danielle Dickerson 76.5-70.5 on Nov. 2 en route to a Cowgirl sweep in the discipline. On Nov. 16, Krshka defeated TCU's Taylor Gillete 77.5-74.5, which earned her Most Outstanding Performer for the event. She was also crowned the winner of the AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Challenge.
Dynamic Duo
Senior Ali Rose is 3-1 this season in the Equitation discipline and earned Most Outstanding Performer in the win over TCU with a score of 86-63. Freshman Jorden Davis has immediately made her presence known in the Equitation discipline with a perfect 3-0 record and is 4-2 in the Hunter Seat event.
2013 Academic Momentum Award
Sophomore Erin Willoughby was named a recipient of the 2013 Academic Momentum Award, presented annually by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports (NCAS). She was one of 15 student-athletes named a second-team selection. This season, Willoughby is 2-2 in the Reining discipline with wins over Kansas State and TCU.
