OSU Has Monster Day In Manhattan
January 18, 2014 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track
Jan. 18, 2014
MANHATTAN, Kan. -
Nick Miller picked up where he left off in his record-setting 2013 campaign, breaking his own school record in the weight throw, as Oklahoma State track and field wrapped up competition at the KSU Wildcat Invitational, in Manhattan, Kan., on Saturday.
Miller, who finished fourth at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships in the weight throw, launched a throw of 21.94m/71-11.75 on just his third throw of the season, winning the event and showing he is primed for another big year.
However, he wasn't the only Cowboy to put together an impressive performance.
Four other Cowboys won their respective events. John Teeters (6.73) took the 60 meter dash, All-American Tyler Payton won the 600 yard run, with a 1:11.88, Shane Moskowitz (2:24.48) won the 1,000 meters and Brian Gohlke (4:13.05) took first in the mile.
The Cowgirls had some great performances as well.
Britney Presley (7.65) came within .02 of the school record while winning the 60 meter dash, Kaela Edwards (2:52.85) and Anna Boyert (2:53.21) finished 1-2 in the 1,000 meter run and Savannah Camacho (4:58.60) won the mile.
“I thought it was a great day,” OSU coach Dave Smith said. “I thought we really competed hard, and I was proud of that. I thought Nick Miller's school-record throw was off the charts for being this early in the season, and a sign of things to come. I thought the women were great in the 1,000 meters, and the guys in the mile did a great job as well. Britney Presley nearly broke a school record in the 60 meters, and I could just go on down the line. It was good all the way through.”
Both the OSU men and women went 1-1 in dual scoring. The men defeated Tulsa, 65-53, and fell to Kansas State, 82-58, and the women defeated Tulsa, 89-35, and fell to the Wildcats, 90-61.
OSU track and field will be back in action at the Razorback Invitational, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, in Fayetteville, Ark.
