Shippy Honored with the 2013 NFCA Golden Shoe Award

STILLWATER, Okla. - Future Oklahoma State softball player Vanessa Shippy has been named the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association High School Golden Shoe Award winner.
The Golden Shoe Award honors the top speedsters in the nation. These athletes are selected by NFCA divisional committees in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, junior college and high school. The Golden Shoe Award began honoring high school athletes in 2009.
Shippy, a Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, native, will join the Cowgirls for the start of the 2014-15 academic year. The second baseman for Lake City High, Shippy hit for a school-record .737 average during her junior season. She set school records in hits (70), runs (69), on-base percentage (.776) and steals (56) in a season, while also collecting 30 runs batted in.
She was named an NFCA first-team All-American, a MaxPreps first-team All-American, and a Junior Player of the Year finalist in 2013. Throughout her high school career, she is a three-time Inland Empire All-League Player and three-time All-State selection. Her freshman year, she was named Inland Empire Newcomer of the Year. She also helped lead Lake City to undefeated Idaho Class 5A State Championships in her freshman and junior seasons.
