STILLWATER - Oklahoma State's women's tennis team has added Katarina Adamovic and Viktoriya Lushkova to its 2014 spring roster, Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young announced on Friday.
Adamovic, a native of Cacak, Serbia, has been ranked as high as 639 in doubles and 923 in singles in the Women's Tennis Association rankings. Adamovic has advanced to the doubles semifinals in six straight Pro Circuit events, and won the doubles title in Pirot in August of 2013 while also advancing to the singles semifinals.
"Katarina is a great competitor who is extremely athletic and has already experienced success winning events at the next level," Young said. "I believe she will continue to develop and will make an immediate impact on our program."
Lushkova, of Simferopol, Ukraine, comes to Oklahoma State after a successful junior career. Lushkova is currently ranked No. 34 in the International Tennis Federation junior rankings after being slotted as high as No. 31 in August of this year. She has been ranked as high as No. 749 in the WTA doubles rankings. Lushkova played each of the junior Grand Slam tournaments in 2013 and advanced to the second round at this year's U.S. Open Junior Championships. She advanced to the round of 16 at the 2013 European Junior Championships and competed in the doubles final at the International Hard Court Championships.
"Viktoriya is a talented player who has experienced a lot of success internationally as a junior player," Young said. "She is a strong girl who has a big game that will help her be successful immediately at the collegiate level."
"I am very excited about the addition of these two girls to our program for the spring season," Young said. "I am not sure you could find a duo any stronger joining a program in January. The five freshmen we have added this year will not only make an impact this season, but they give us a great foundation for success in the years to come. Katarina and Viktoriya are motivated and excited to be with us and we welcome them to the Cowgirl tennis family."
The Cowgirls will begin their spring season on Jan. 17, when they travel to Maui, Hawaii, for the Hawaii Pacific Hidden Duals.
