TAMPERE, Finland -
Oklahoma State's Tom Farrell claimed the silver medal in the 5,000 meters, and Cowboy Nick Miller finished ninth in the hammer throw at the European Under-23 Track and Field Championships, in Tampere, Finland, on Saturday.
Farrell completed the 5,000 meters in 14:19.94, just .55 short of winning the race. After just missing out on the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June, this was redemption in a big way for Farrell.
“He ran an awesome race,” OSU Coach Dave Smith said. “This result was huge for his confidence, and it lets him know he is back on track.”
In the hammer throw, Nick Miller took ninth, with a throw of 66.64m/218-7. The result matched his finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, but he beat NCAA hammer throw champion Tomas Kruzliak by more than two meters.
"It was big for Nick to make his first final in international competition,” throws coach John Baumann said. “It has been a long season, and he is ready for a break and to recharge for next season.”
