STILLWATER -
Cowgirl tennis assistant coach Jamea Jackson will leave the program after taking a position as a National Coach with the United States Tennis Association, it was announced on Friday.
“It's hard to put into words what this team and my time at Oklahoma State has meant to me,” Jackson said. “I appreciate everything that everyone on this team has done for me, especially our head coach, Chris Young. Although I will no longer be coaching here, I will be a Cowgirl for life.”
In her new position, Jackson will be working with the top American tennis players in Boca Raton, Fla. Jackson will travel to tennis tournaments all over the United States and around the world.
Jackson served four years as assistant coach for Chris Young and the Cowgirl tennis team. During those four years, the Cowgirls notched a 48-45 record with 16 of those wins coming in the 2013 season. Jackson also had a large hand in the Cowgirls making back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances for the first time in over 20 years in 2012 and 2013.
Before coming to Oklahoma State, Jackson completed a successful professional playing career that saw her rise as high as No. 45 in the world rankings in 2006 and compete in all four of the sport's grand slams. She finished her professional career with 77 singles victories as well as seven doubles wins. Jackson owns career wins over several players ranked among the top 50 in the world, including Jelena Jankovic, Marion Bartoli and Maria Sharapova. A native of Atlanta, Ga., she attended the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
“I can't thank Jamea enough for her contributions to our program over the last four years,” Cowgirl tennis coach Chris Young said. “She was instrumental in helping us build a program that has become competitive on a national level. While I am sad to see her leave, I am proud of what we accomplished and what lies ahead for her with this new opportunity.”
