STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis has been selected to compete in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, it was announced today. The Cowgirls will travel to Los Angeles, Calif., the weekend of May 10-12. It will mark OSU's 15th overall appearance in the tournament, and its first back-to-back trips since 1991.
The Cowgirls (15-8) will serve as the No. 2 seed and face Long Beach State in the first round. Should they advance, they will go on to face the winner of the UCLA-Army match-up.
Oklahoma State is coming off an explosive weekend at the Big 12 Championships, where the Cowgirls knocked off top-seeded Baylor en route to making their first trip to the tournament finals since 2003.
“I think last weekend is going to help us tremendously,” senior Malika Rose said. “We knew how talented we were. We knew how great our coaches are, but we hadn't really broken that barrier. I think beating the teams that we did really made us believe that we are worthy of all of these accolades.”
This is the second appearance for the team in head coach Chris Young's four years at the helm of the program.
“Going out to UCLA is a good trip for the girls,” Young said. “It's a good reward for a great season so far. We're definitely going to be focused on Long Beach State. It's a tough match-up. We're looking to advance this year.”
