Waco, Texas – Oklahoma State's western team defeated the Auburn Tigers today, 5-3, in the quarterfinals of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championships at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.
The Cowgirls picked up an early lead after defeating the Tigers, 3-1, in reining where juniors Jenna Blumer and Mackenzie Fugitt both picked up their points. Sophomore Katy Krshka also picked up her point after defeating her opponent, 141.5-138.5.
Auburn would rally back though. Led by their horsemanship team, the Tigers pulled within one point with just one rider left. Sophomore Lindsey McMullen would come up with the game-deciding point after an amazing ride in which she defeated her opponent 148.5-135.
“I knew we had to have one point, but I didn't know it was all going to come down to me,” sophomore Lindsey McMullen said. “It feels really good to contribute like that, but I'm just happy we get another chance to ride again tomorrow.”
The western team will meet up with the South Carolina Gamecocks tomorrow at 9 a.m. for a chance to compete in the NCEA finals. Be sure to follow the Cowgirls @OSUEquestrian for all the latest updates throughout the day.
