Cowgirls Host Big 12 Championships

The No. 3 Oklahoma State Equestrian team will look to defend their Big 12 Championship when they host the Big 12 Championships this weekend at the Animal Science Arena. The Cowgirls will take on No. 7 Baylor on Friday at 10 a.m.
"We are really looking forward to hosting the Big 12 Championships this weekend," coach Larry Sanchez said. "The girls are riding at a very high level and are in a great place mentally. I encourage our fans to come out and support the Cowgirls for this great event."
About the Cowgirls
Oklahoma State is 9-5 on year season, including a 5-1 record at home. The Western team is 12-2 on the season and the Hunter Seat team is 7-6-1. OSU will be the No. 1 seed in this weekends Championship.
About the Opponents
TCU is seeded second after finishing the season 8-5 and splitting the series with the Cowgirls 1-1. Kansas State is seeded third with a record of 7-3 and splitting the regular season series 1-1 with the Cowgirls. Baylor is the fourth seed after finishing the season 10-5 and splitting the season series 1-1 with the Cowgirls.

Big 12 Championship History
The 2013 season marks the second year that equestrian has been a fully-sponsored Big 12 sport. Prior to the 2012 season, the sport had been supported by the Conference on a limited basis for three seasons, however, the three championships won during those years are recognized by the league. Oklahoma State (2009), Baylor (2010) and Texas A&M (2011) all won the event while hosting it. Oklahoma State has an all-time record of 6-2 at the Big 12 Championships.
Perfection
Sophomore Katy Krshka finished the season 14-0 in Horsemanship, with 7 of those victories being MOP performances. She also finished the season 11-3 in Reining and finished the season with an overall record of 25-3 with 13 MOP's.
Western Superlatives
The Western team finished the season 12-2 and 4-2 in Big 12 competition and winning each meet by and average of 3.8 points per meet.
Academic All-Big 12
Seniors Caitlin Harris and Aisling Henschel were both named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Equestrian Team with both of them posting 4.0 grade point averages. Along with Harris and Henschel, 17 other Cowgirls were selected to the team.
