SOUTH BEND, Ind. -
Fabian Clarkson nearly ran another sub-four minute mile and Tyler Payton tied his personal-best 800 meters for the Oklahoma State men's track and field team in day two of the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Saturday.
Clarkson finished seventh in the mile, running a 4:00.70--just short of his personal best of 3:59.47, which he achieved when he and three other Cowboys ran sub-four minute miles at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
Tyler Payton's 1:51.07 in the 800 meters equaled a personal best, and was good enough for 28th place in the event.
"Both of the guys did great," OSU Coach Dave Smith said. "Tyler [Payton] matched his personal record, and Fabian [Clarkson] was really close. They have both dialed in that level of consistency now. It's not uncommon for someone to run a great time, and not match it for a year or two, but both of these guys have hit that next level, and showed they can maintain that consistency. It shows they're ready to take the next step. It's very encouraging."
The OSU men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., next weekend, March 8-9, for the NCAA Indoor National Track and Field Championships.
