STILLWATER — A total of 23 home games highlight the 2014 Oklahoma State softball schedule, announced today by head coach Rich Wieligman. The Cowgirls will play the NCAA allotted 56 home games, more than 40 percent of which will be played at Cowgirl Stadium.
OSU opens the 2014 season at the LSU Softball Classic in Baton Rouge, La., the weekend of Feb. 7-9. The Cowgirls will play Southern Illinois, Murray State, Minnesota and LSU. The following weekend, Feb. 14-16, Oklahoma State will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to compete in the UTSA Softball Classic. There, OSU will face Colorado State, Wichita State, Rutgers and UTSA.
A trip to Palm Springs, Calif., follows as the Cowgirls will compete in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. More than 40 schools will be competing at the event, and OSU is scheduled to play BYU, Pacific, Long Beach State, Cal State Northridge and San Diego State.
Oklahoma State will host its first home game of the season on Saturday, March 1, as the Cowgirls host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a doubleheader. The following day, OSU will play Nebraska in a doubleheader as well at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. A mid-week game vs Tulsa in Stillwater on March 5 will be the fifth of 10-consecutive home games for OSU. The following weekend, the Cowgirls will host the Mizuno Classic, with Drake, Minnesota and Missouri State all competing at Cowgirl Stadium, March 7-9.
After a mid-week game at North Texas on March 12, the Cowgirls will host New Mexico and South Alabama in the Cowgirl Classic, March 14-16. OSU will travel to Columbia, Mo., to compete in the Mizzou Tournament (March 21-23). Oklahoma State has a mid-week game with Central Arkansas at home on March 26 before opening Big 12 Conference action in Lawrence, Kan., March 28-30. OSU and Kansas will play a three-game series.
Round one of Bedlam softball will take place on Wednesday, April 2, in Norman. Due to construction at the Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, there will be no neutral-site game in the series this season. As the designated home team this year, the Sooners will get two-of-three games at home. The other two games will be played May 10 (in Stillwater) and May 11 (in Norman) to close the regular season.
Oklahoma State hosts Iowa State (April 4-6) and Baylor (April 17-19), while traveling to Texas Tech (April 11-13) and Texas (April 25-27) in Big 12 Conference action. The Cowgirls also have a midweek game vs North Texas in Stillwater (April 9) and at Tulsa (April 23) intermingled with league play. OSU will also travel to College Station, Texas, for a two-game series with former Big 12-rival Texas A&M (May 2-3).
