STILLWATER -
After winning the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship on Friday, Oklahoma State men's cross country moved up to the No. 2 ranking in the nation, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, which was released today.
This is the 42nd-consecutive poll in which OSU has been ranked in the nation's top three. The last time the Cowboys weren't ranked in the top three was in 2009, when they spent two weeks at No. 4.
The Cowboys earned four of the 12 first-place votes. OSU's 347 points in the poll were only six points behind No. 1 Northern Arizona.
“At this point, the rankings don't matter very much,” OSU coach Dave Smith said. “We have to go out and prove it on Saturday. That's a good thing. It's an objective process and the best teams get to go.”
OSU cross country will be back in action on Nov. 23, when the teams travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
