Equestrian to Close Out Fall Slate Against TCU

The seventh-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian squad wraps up its fall slate Saturday, Nov. 16, when it hosts Big 12 foe, TCU. Competition is set to being at 10 a.m. at Animal Science Arena.
The Cowgirls (1-2) are 6-5 all-time against the third-ranked Horned Frogs (4-1).The last time the two teams met was on Feb. 24, 2013, when the Cowgirls defeated TCU 11-8. In that competition, the western team won 7-2 and the hunter seat team fell 6-4. Junior Katy Krshka scored the highest in reining with a 74 and earned Most Outstanding Performer, junior Lindsey McMullen secured the MOP in horsemanship with a high score of 77.5 and Samantha Harrison earned MOP of the season with a high score of 93 in equitation over fences.
“We're very excited about this weekend,” coach Larry Sanchez said. “TCU is a great team and we're going to need to ride up to beat them.”
The Cowgirls are coming off of a 15-3 victory against South Dakota State. In that meet, the western team improved to 3-0 on the season, winning 8-2. In horsemanship, the Cowgirls won 5-0 and McMullen earned herself a MOP for her high score of 76.5. In reigning the Cowgirls won 3-2 and Krshka also earned an MOP for her score of 76.5.
The hunter seat team picked up its first victory of the season in the contest, winning 4-0 in equitation, and 3-1 in equitation over fences. In equitation, senior Sammy Elser picked up her first MOP for her 85-76 showing.
“The season's been great,” Sanchez said. “We've had a couple of close losses and the team just continues to get better week in and week out. We're really looking forward to what the future holds for this team. Adding Stacy (Sanderson) to the coaching staff has really added a spark to this team that we needed to potentially vie for another national championship.”
After this, the Cowgirls will return to competition in 2014 when they travel to Dover, Del., where they will take on Auburn and Delaware State, respectively on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
