Equestrian Hosts South Dakota State in Home Opener

STILLWATER, Okla. - The seventh-ranked Oklahoma State equestrian team will host South Dakota State for the first home competition of the season, Saturday, Nov. 2 at Animal Science Arena, with the event set to begin at 10 a.m.
The Cowgirls (0-2) are 1-0 all-time against the Jack Rabbits (0-3), winning last season's matchup in Brookings, S.D., 16-4, with seniors Jenna Blumer and Andrea Robbins earning Most Outstanding Performer awards for their victories.
In that contest, the hunter seat squad defeated South Dakota State, 8-2, winning equitation, 4-1 and winning equitation over fences, 4-1. The western team won 5-0 in horsemanship and 3-2 in reining.
"We view every competition as a tough competition," coach Larry Sanchez said. "We're going to go into this weekend trying to score as many points as we possibly can."
The Cowgirls are coming off of a 12-8 defeat at the hands of the fourth-ranked Baylor Bears. The western team picked up another victory, defeating the Bears, 6-4. The Cowgirls won horsemanship, defeating Baylor 4-1.
Junior Katy Krshka defeated Gillian Chant, 77.5-71.5. Senior Lauren Halvorson had the best ride of the day, defeating Parris Rice, 78.5-78, and picking up her first Most Outstanding Performer of the season. Jenna Blumer also earned her first Most Outstanding Performer award of the season in reining.
The Cowgirls will take a week off and then return to action Nov. 16 when they take on Big 12 foe TCU in their final event of the fall season.
