Cowgirls Split Fall Finale in Arkansas

FAYETTVILLE, Ark. - The Oklahoma State softball team split its final doubleheader of the fall season, falling in game one 10-2 and shutting out Arkansas, 4-0 in the second game. The Cowgirls finished the fall season with a 6-2 record.
In game one, the Razorbacks scored first in the bottom of the initial frame, scoring two runs. They added two more in the bottom of the second when Chole Oprzedek hit a two-run home run to center field to make it 4-0.
The Cowgirls got on the board in the top of the third when sophomore Michaela Patton walked with the bases loaded, scoring sophomore Shianne Hughes. They would get another run in the top of the fourth when senior Shannon Kaufman scored on an RBI single by senior Simone Freeman.
Arkansas scored two runs in the third, one in the fourth and capped off their scoring with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 10-2.
Offensively for the Cowgirls, freshman Madison Ellis had two hits, as did senior Tarah Ettinger. Patton and Freeman picked up OSU's two RBIs in the game.
Freshman starter Meagan Lively went four innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits and walking five. Freshman Whitney Whitehorn came on in relief and pitched two innings, allowing three runs on two hits with one strikeout.
The Cowgirls rebounded in game two, jumping on the board first in the top of the second inning when sophomore Danielle Riddle scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Dre McKee. In the top of the third, OSU added one when sophomore Tiffany Mikkelson scored on a base hit by Riddle to make it 2-0.
The Cowgirls put the final nail in the coffin in the top of the fifth. Mikkelson scored on an RBI single by Whitehorn. Later in the inning, Whitehorn scored when Ellis reached on an error by the shortstop, making the score 4-0. The Cowgirls would go on to win by that final.
Freeman was once again solid in the circle, pitching seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits and striking out seven.
Offensively, Mikkelson, Riddle and Cavin all recorded two hits and Whitehorn, Ellis, Riddle and McKee all had RBIs for the Cowgirls.
