STILLWATER — Oklahoma State's pitchers were dominant once again, allowing just one hit through two seven-inning games against Connors State here Wednesday evening at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. OSU defeated CSC 11-0 in the first game of the day and 4-0 in the nightcap.
Freshman Meagan Lively threw a complete-game no-hitter in the first game of the doubleheader, striking out 12 Connors State batters. Her only downfall was issuing five walks, the only baserunners of the game for CSC. At the plate for OSU, every Cowgirl had at least one hit, led by junior Shelby Davis, who went 3-for-5 with two runs batted in. Freshman Whitney Whitehorn went 3-for-3 with two runs scored as the designated player, and sophomore transfer Michaela Patton with 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
In the second contest, senior hurler Simone Freeman was even more dominant. In six innings, she struck out 15 of the 21 batters she faced. The lone hit of the day came on a bloop single by Kara Muskrat to shallow right-centerfield. Whitehorn came on in relief in the final frame and retired the side. Offensively, the Cowgirls struggled to push any runners across home plate, despite four different players collecting two hits. After scoring one run in the bottom of the first when Ari Morrison scored on a Tiffany Mikkelson single, the score was still 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth. In that inning, OSU scored three runs on four hits, including a double by Gessenia DeLaCruz.
Oklahoma State, now 4-0 in fall scrimmages, will take some time off before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 12, when the Cowgirls travel to Tulsa to face the Golden Hurricane in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
