Softball Splits at Tulsa

TULSA, Okla. - The Oklahoma State softball team continued with its fall schedule today, splitting a doubleheader with Tulsa. The Cowgirls won game one 3-2 and fell 4-2 in the second game.
In game one, Tulsa took a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
However, it didn't take the Cowgirls long to chip away their lead. In the top of the third, sophomore Danielle Riddle scored when sophomore Tiffany Mikkelson walked with the bases loaded. They tied the game in the top of the fifth on an infield single by senior Simon Freeman that scored Riddle. Next, junior Shelby Davis scored on a fielder's choice by junior Gessenia DeLaCruz to give OSU the 3-2 lead.
Offensively, senior Shannon Kaufman went 3-for-4 with three singles and Davis was 2-for-4. Mikkelson, DeLaCruz and Freeman all picked up an RBI.
In the circle, Freeman pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits with 12 strikeouts.
In game two, the Cowgirls took the early 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the top of the first. The first run came when senior Ari Morrison scored on an error by the shortstop and OSU's second run came when sophomore Shianne Hughes scored on an error at second base.
At the plate in the nightcap, sophomore Shianne Hughes went 4-for-4 with four singles and sophomore Michaela Patton went 2-for-3 with two singles.
Tulsa tie dthe game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth and took a 4-2 lead on a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth and the final score.
Freshman starter Meagan Lively pitched six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and four strikeouts.
The Cowgirls will wrap up their eight-game fall schedule on Sunday, Oct. 20, when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
