STILLWATER -
Oklahoma State men's cross country is once again the No. 1 team in the nation, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, which was released today.
OSU strengthened its hold on the top spot this weekend, defeating then-No. 2 Northern Arizona at the Cowboy Jamboree. The Cowboys picked up all 12 first-place votes, one more than they had last week.
This is OSU's seventh-straight week at No. 1, dating back to last season. This is also the Cowboys' second-longest stint at the top, behind an eight-week stay at No. 1 in 2011.
On the women's side, OSU jumped four spots, to No. 18. This is the Cowgirls' first time in the national top 20 since being No. 19 in the final week of 2010. OSU also remains the highest-ranked team in the Big 12.
“Both of our teams are running well, and it's nice that they are getting recognized for it.” OSU coach Dave Smith said. “For the women, that ranking is a sign of respect. It shows our program is heading in the right direction. Both teams just need to keep the momentum going and continue to prove themselves.”
OSU cross country will be back in action Oct. 19, when the teams travel to the Pre-National Invitational, in Terre Haute, Ind.
