STILLWATER - The Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country teams return home Saturday to compete in the annual Cowboy Jamboree. We decided to get Silverdale, Wash. native Shane Moskowitz's insight on the Jamboree and what it means to the athletes competing.
What are the advantages of having a race at home?
"We have a lot more fans that show up. During most races, we don't have anyone that shows up to cheer us on, but when it's here we have the crowd on our side. Also, we know the course better than all the other teams because we run on it every day. So I feel like that gives us a huge advantage because we know how to race it better than everyone else. Also, just the feeling of being at home helps.
What does running in the Cowboy Jamboree mean to you?
"It has a lot of history to it. Also we've run this race back-to-back-to-back for a number of years and it just means a lot to us because it's our home course."
What is your favorite Jamboree moment?
"I can't say that I have many from the actual race since it's my second time running. If I have to pick any race on the course I'd have to say the Big 12 Championships my freshman year because I was a freshman and my first Big 12's that I ever raced so that is probably my favorite moment on the course."
How do you use the Jamboree as a measuring stick for future meets?
"That's easy. The Jamboree is easily the hardest course we race on all year. I feel like if you have a good race there then it will give you a lot of confidence and you'll know that you're in peak shape for the rest of the season. Also, if you have a bad race there you just have to build off of it and get better."
What is the atmosphere like at the Jamboree?
"It's different than other races just because it's here and we have a lot of pride in our team, so winning in front of our home crowd means a lot to us."
