Lubbock, Texas — Tamara Brown went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, but the Cowgirl offense couldn't keep up with Texas Tech as the No. 24 Red Raiders defeated Oklahoma State 8-4 here Sunday afternoon in Big 12 softball action.
The Red Raiders got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the initial inning. After Cowgirl pitcher Simone Freeman walked a pair of Tech batters with two outs, designated player Adriana Perez hit a home run over the fence just right of straight-away centerfield, her 16th of the season. The Raiders added two more in the second on three-consecutive base hits and an error by Cowgirl catcher Taylor Woodall, taking a 5-0 lead.
Oklahoma State cut into the lead in the top of the third. With two outs, Tamara Brown and Julie Ward hit back-to-back singles. A passed ball moved both runners up, and Chelsea Garcia hit a base hit to right field. Brown scored easily, and Ward scored as well as the throw was off the mark. However, the Tech catcher threw Garcia out trying to stretch it to second base, ending the inning with OSU trailing 5-2.
Texas Tech's Sandy James hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third, her second of the game and 11th of the season. Back-to-back homers by Ashley Hamada and Emily Bledsoe in the fourth made it 8-2 Red Raiders.
With one out in the top of the fifth, Shelby Davis hit a sharp liner to the pitcher and reached on the infield single. After an illegal pitch moved her to second, she scored on a base hit by Kelsey Anchors, making the score 8-3. The Cowgirls made it 8-4 in the sixth on three hits, including an RBI single by Davis, scoring Amy Graham. However, Davis was thrown out at second and ended the frame.
Oklahoma State (25-22 overall, 8-12 Big 12) and Texas Tech (39-14, 12-10) will conclude the series with a 4 pm game on Monday.
