Stillwater, Okla. -- Chelsea Garcia, the shortstop on Oklahoma State's softball team, was named a Capital One Academic All-District VII first-team selection by the College Sports Information Director's of America, it was announced today.
Garcia, a senior from Moore, Okla., is the first three-time Academic All-District selection for the sport of softball in OSU history. She was named a first-team Academic All-American last season, and was also the recipient of the Elite 88 Award, given by the NCAA to the student-athlete with the highest grade point average at the championships in each sponsored sport.
One of 11 players named to the All-District team, Garcia is now eligible for the Academic All-America teams. She is one of seven players from the Big 12 Conference named to the All-District VII team.
Garcia and the Cowgirls are in Lubbock, Texas, this weekend for a three-game series with the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The first game of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 1 pm.
