Cowboys In Seventh At Ann Arbor Regional

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team carded a 290 during the first round of action at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional on Thursday to stand in a tie for seventh place at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
The Cowboys wrapped up the day tied with North Carolina State at 6-over par at the par-71, 6,723-yard layout. The two teams stand just four shots out of the second-place spot held by Kent State at 286. TCU fired a 6-under 278 to emerge as the 18-hole leader. Kennesaw State and Virginia shared third place at 287, while Oregon finished the day at 288 and in fifth place. Southern California came in a shot ahead of the Cowboys at 289 and alone in sixth place.
Three players shared the individual lead with TCU's Julien Brun, Baylor's Joakim Mikkelsen and USC's Anthony Paolucci all carding 4-under 67s.
Patrick Winther posted the Cowboys' low round of the day at 1-under 70. The redshirt freshman finished as one of seven players tied for eighth place. Starting on the back nine, Winther carded four consecutive pars before posting a birdie at the par-3 14th hole. After adding four more pars to turn in 1-under 34, Winther got to 2-under for the day with a birdie at the fourth. He gave back a shot with a bogey at the sixth before finishing with three more pars.
Freshman Tanner Kesterson finished at 1-over 72 to stand in a tie for 23rd place, while sophomore Talor Gooch's 73 tied him for 31st place.
Sophomore Ian Davis posted a 75 to finish tied for 42nd place and junior Sean Einhaus signed for a 76 to come in tied for 48th place.
The Cowboys will begin their second round tomorrow at 8 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with North Carolina State and Purdue.
