Cowboys Slip To Eighth At NCAA Regional

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 283 during its second round at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional on Friday to stand alone in eighth place at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
The Cowboys' 1-under score gave them a 36-hole total of 573 and put them a shot behind North Carolina State at the par-71, 6,723-yard layout. Southern California fired a 12-under 272 to surge to the top of the leaderboard at 7-under 561. Three teams shared the No. 2 spot with Oregon, Kent State and TCU all finishing the day at 562. Virginia finished with a 36-hole total of 568 and alone in fifth place.
The top five teams and low individual not on those teams following tomorrow's final round will advance to the NCAA Championship later this month at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
A pair of players, TCU's Julien Brun and North Carolina State's Albin Choi, shared the individual lead through two rounds with each player holding a 7-under 135 total.
For the Cowboys, Patrick Winther moved up five spots into a tie for third place after firing a career-low 66. The redshirt freshman finished as one of four players tied at 136. Starting on the back nine, Winther turned in 1-over 36 before catching fire on his second nine. After a birdie at the par-5 first, he added another birdie at the par-5 third to move under par. Winther then closed out his round with four consecutive birdies over Nos. 6-9 to get to 5-under for the day.
Sophomore Talor Gooch followed an opening 73 with a 72 for a 145 total, tying him for 30th place.
Junior Sean Einhaus joined Gooch at 145 after firing a 2-under 69 that included three birdies and an eagle on his front nine.
Freshman Tanner Kesterson finished the day tied for 46th place at 149 after signing for a 77, while sophomore Ian Davis carded a 76 for a 151 total to come in tied for 55th place.
The Cowboys will begin their final round tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. (EST) and will be grouped with North Carolina State and Kennesaw State.
