Opening statement
“Obviously, we played a great team tonight. They wore their ranking strong in every position. Big, long, athletic, very physical, very skilled team. When you say that we lost by 32 and we did some decent things. I thought we got some good shots, but we didn't make some shots. We missed a few layups. We didn't shoot well from the three-line, but I thought we had some good offense. We didn't shoot very well from the free throw line, as well. When you play them, you have to be as close to perfect as possible. I think we did some things that are better than what the score showed up, but we didn't make shots. I give Baylor credit for having good shots. We probably weren't as physical as we needed to be.”
On Taylor Schippers
“We talked about the kid we had last year, Lakyn Garrison. I think she's got batter range than what Lakyn had. We have confidence in her shooting it. There's different players around the conference struggling, but you have to let shooters keep shooting the basketball. She spent more time in the gym, and she was rewarded for that tonight.”
On Brittney Griner
“I don't think there's a defense they haven't seen. They're very well coached. Griner, besides 28 (points) and 10 (rebounds) tonight, did a great job of setting everybody up. She's so tall that she can see over and throw over everybody and find people on the back side. There's no weakness to her game, right now. That's why I've said she's the best player in the world, right now.”
Taylor Schippers
On her 3-point shooting
“I was getting a lot of good looks, and I was in a slump. I figured I needed to get out of it at some point.”
On Baylor
“Baylor is a good team so I don't really look at the scoreboard as long as were executing the plays coach is calling for us. We did have good plays and executed well. We just couldn't get open shots tonight. The scoreboard kind of led us a little astray. We just can't focus on the scoreboard. We have five more games in this season. We have games that are winnable. We just have to keep our heads up and stay positive and get the next one.”
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On Baylor's patience
"I thought our patience was very good. I thought (Kimetria Hayden) was a spark for us. She was very aggressive on the offensive end of the floor. I thought we got (Brittney) Griner touches early. They started the game 2-6 from the three. I thought, 'Oh boy, here we go. It's going to be one of those nights.' I was looking at their threes, 6-27. I'll take responsibility for two of those. I had the big lineup in the game and I was trying to look at a 1-3-1 (zone defense) and they hit two threes, and I got out of it quickly, just experimenting and looking at some different things to do defensively with the big lineup. It was very obvious that they're game plan was to spread the floor and shoot the the three ball. I thought we moved well on the defensive end of the floor. They had us chasing them a lot, and I thought that we were very patient and we pretty much got whatever we wanted shot-wise against the zone and the man."
On getting free throws
"I thought getting to the foul line was very important. Sometimes when you see zone, you want to stand and not attack, and we were outstanding getting to the foul line at the moments we did early in the first half: I think it was eight and a half minutes, I'm not sure in the second half, but then we made free throws. Again, I thought Brooklyn Pope's amount of minutes and production was very good. I thought it was a good night and everybody should be happy."
On if she takes Brittney Griner's productivity for granted
"I don't. I don't think anybody that comes here takes it for granted. I don't think any of the fans take her for granted; I think they sit there and go, 'Wow. We may never see the likes of her again.' I think she's not a player that anyone takes for granted. I think she's entertaining. I think it's fun to watch Brittney. It wouldn't be if I was on the other bench, but I don't think she's taken for granted by anybody."
Brittney Griner
On the offensive efficiency
"We were just moving the ball around and not going for the first shot. We had people cutting and just doing exactly what we needed to do on offense. It was just clicking for us."
On being selected a finalists for the Olympic team
"I was very happy, smiling. It's an honor. I feel like everybody that plays ball, that's kind of like the dream. It's the top team, playing for the USA, so definitely I'm happy."
Kimetria Hayden
On having a good game against OSU
"It was just the opportunity with me flashing and moving without the ball and hitting shots."
