Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team will play 24 games in 2013 against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year, highlighting the schedule released by head coach Rich Wieligman today. The slate also includes 35 of 56 games against teams that finished last season in the top-100 of the RPI rankings.
OSU will open the 2013 schedule on Friday, Feb. 8, as the Cowgirls travel to St. George, Utah, to compete in the Red Desert Classic. That tournament will be culminate with a game vs Tennessee, a Women's College World Series team last season. The following weekend, Oklahoma State will drive to Denton, Texas, to compete in the Lovelace Invitational. The tournament will feature a pair of games against Iowa of the Big 10 Conference.
On Thursday, Feb. 21, OSU will open play in the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. There, the Cowgirls will play five games against teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament, including traditional powerhouses Florida, Stanford and UCLA. The next weekend (March 1-3), OSU will participate in The Preview, hosting Houston on Friday night and Nebraska on Sunday, while facing both teams in Oklahoma City on Saturday.
Oklahoma State will host the Mizuno Classic on March 8-10, which will include four games on Friday, another four on Saturday, and two games on Sunday. The field includes Santa Clara, Northern Iowa and Cleveland State.
OSU will travel to Clearwater, Fla., on March 15-17, to compete in the USF Spring Invitational. The Cowgirls will also travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for three games total against the New Mexico Lobos and Siena before Big 12 Conference play begins on March 28.
Other non-conference games include home games against Central Arkansas (Wed., March 13), North Texas (Wed., March 20), Wichita State (Wed., April 10) and Tulsa (Wed., April 24). Single road games are at Tulsa (Wed., March 6) and at Wichita State (Wed., April 3).
Oklahoma State will host Texas Tech (March 28-30), Kansas (April 19-21) and Texas (May 3-5) in three-game series in Stillwater, while traveling to Iowa State (April 5-7), and Baylor (April 12-14). The annual Bedlam series will begin with a game in Oklahoma City on Wed., April 17, and conclude the regular season with a game in Norman (Saturday, May 11) and in Stillwater (Sunday, May 12).
