SARASOTA, Fla. -
Oklahoma State's women's tennis team was eliminated from the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic on Saturday. After a disappointing first day out, four of the five Cowgirls competing in the tournament were left to compete in the consolation draw on Saturday.
Senior Malika Rose was the only Cowgirl to grab a victory Saturday, defeating East Tennessee State's Antonia Kovolou in the first round of consolation 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the second round where she fought hard, but lost in three sets to Emily Zabor of Alabama.
Freshman Maria Alvarez came up short in the bracket's first round to Petra Ferancova of Mississippi State 6-4, 5-7, 8-10. Neither Kanyapat Narattana or C.C. Sardinha competed on Saturday due to injury. Meghan Blevins also did not compete.
The Cowgirls will be in action again on Jan. 21 in Wichita, Kan., where they will face Wichita State to kick off their spring schedule.
