Cowgirls Finish Play at USAFA Invitational

Oklahoma State's women's tennis team wrapped up competition at the United States Air Force Academy Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Sunday.
Oklahoma State freshman Maria Alvarez provided the highlight of the day when she won the “Charlie” singles bracket. In the bracket semifinals, Alvarez beat Eastern Michigan's Nino Mebuke in two sets to advance to the finals. Alvarez defeated Julia Jamieson of Illinois 7-5, 6-3 in the finals to win the flight.
In the “Alpha” singles flight, Meghan Blevins opened the final day of the tournament with a win in the semifinals over Eastern Michigan's Diana Davitaia 6-0, 6-7, 10-8 to advance to the final round of her bracket. In the finals, Blevins fell 7-6(5), 6-0 to Liudmila Vasilieva of Washington State, and finished second in her flight.
Cowgirl C.C. Sardinha competed in the semifinals of the “Bravo” singles flight, but was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury in the second set of her match against Texas Tech's Nikki Sanders.
The Cowgirls will be back in action later this month when they compete in the ITA Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla., beginning on Oct. 20.
