Cowgirl Softball Hosts Independence CC

Stillwater, Okla. — Oklahoma State's Cowgirl Softball team will host Independence Community College in a 10-inning scrimmage on Tuesday evening at the Cowgirl Softball Complex. First pitch is slated for 6 pm.
OSU is 2-0 on the fall season with a pair of shutouts. The Cowgirl pitching staff has yet to allow a run in 20 innings of play and have combined for 33 strikeouts while allowing just seven hits and six walks. Senior Kat Espinosa has allowed four hits while striking out 11 in eight innings pitched, while junior Simone Freeman has been nearly perfect, allowing just one hit in eight innings while striking out 17 of 24 possible outs. Freshman Chelsea Ross has given up just two hits in four innings.
Offensively, the Cowgirls are led by second baseman Ari Morrison, who has eight hits in 10 at-bats. Junior transfer Shannon Kaufman is hitting .667 with four hits in six at-bats and a team-high six runs scored, and freshman third baseman Tiffany Mikkelson is hitting .364 with a team-high six runs batted in. As a team, OSU is hitting .402 with 11 doubles, a triple and two home runs.
