Cowgirl Tennis Opens 2012 Season Friday

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team begins its 2012 dual season Friday, traveling to Tulsa for a double-header against the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Oral Roberts in Tulsa.
The Cowgirls face the UMKC Kangaroos at 9 a.m. at Tulsa's Case Tennis Center, then travel across town to take on ORU at 7 p.m. at The Grand Health and Racquet Club.
The Kangaroos had their best season in history in 2011, finishing with a 12-13 overall record and advancing to their first Summit League Championship final match.
ORU finished the 2011 season with a 5-12 overall record and were 4-5 in conference play. The Golden Eagles are 1-1 with a 5-2 victory over the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and a 7-0 loss to Tulsa.
OSU, guided by third-year coach Chris Young, returns five athletes from last year. Kanyapat Narattana, coming off of a Big 12 championship at No. 5 singles, is joined by juniors C.C. Sardinha and Malika Rose and sophomores Allison Burckhartt and Leyla Simmons as returners. OSU also welcomes four freshmen in Meghan Blevins, Mary Jeremiah, Jovana Pecovski and Isabela Miro.
The Cowgirls finished with an 8-16 record in 2011.
Entering the 2012 season, the Cowgirls are ranked No. 75 as a team with the doubles pair of Narattana and Rose ranked 32nd.
