STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team snapped an eight-game losing streak to its in-state rival on Saturday, rallying to defeat Oklahoma 66-63 in front of 5,543 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Despite struggling offensively in the first half the Cowgirls (10-3 overall, 2-2 Big 12) trailed just 28-23 at the break. OSU managed to hit just 27 percent of its shots, including a 1-of-12 effort from the 3-point line, but kept the contest close after outrebounding the Sooners (10-5, 2-2) by a 25-18 count and holding OU to a 33 percent shooting clip.
The Sooners extended the margin to double figures in the second half, taking a 46-35 lead with a bucket at the 12:47 mark. With OU leading by 10 and just under 11 minutes remaining, the Cowgirls used an 11-4 run to pull within three with four minutes to go.
After the Sooners extend their margin back to seven at 63-56 on a pair of free throws with 2:27 left, the Cowgirls closed the game on a 10-0 run to earn their first Bedlam Series victory since 2008.
Sophomore Jenni Bryan, who did not play in the first half, hit a pair of free throws and Tiffany Bias got a steal and drew a foul on the inbounds pass before hitting a pair of free throws to pull OSU within three with two minutes to go.
Bias hit a tough layup in traffic to cut the margin to one at 63-62 a minute later.
The Cowgirls forced the Sooners into a shot clock violation on the ensuing possession and took their first lead of the half when Bryan drilled a 3-pointer from the wing with 28 ticks remaining.
Freshman Liz Donohoe added a free throw and blocked OU's final 3-point attempt to end the game.
OU's Joanna McFarland led all scorers with 16 points, while Donohoe and Bias paced the Cowgirls with 14 points apiece.
Bryan added 10 points, while junior Toni Young finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
