STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State cross country program got the season started on the right foot Saturday as the men's and women's teams each turned in dominating performances at the Hurricane Festival.
The dual scores from the event reflect the strong performances as the men went 3-0 and the women finished 5-0.
The defending back-to-back national champion Cowboys' top five runners all finished in the top 10. Redshirt freshman Kirubel Erassa led the way with a first-place finish, completing the four-mile race in just 20:25.
Redshirt freshman Kevin Colon finished just seconds behind Erassa, coming in at second place with a time of 20:27. Redshirt freshman Neal Smith was the Cowboys' third finisher, coming in at sixth place with a 20:33 performance.
Redshirt freshmen Nick Thorp and David Osborne rounded out the Cowboys' top five finishers with eighth- and ninth-place finishes, respectively.
The Cowgirls also saw their top five runners place in the top 10. They were led by true freshman Monika Juodeskaite, as the Kaunas, Lithuania, native finished second with a time of 11:18 in the two-mile race.
Sophomore Victoria Hanna placed third with an 11:20 effort and sophomore Kate Kujawa was not far behind, finishing fifth with a time of 11:21. Senior Teran Mixon placed sixth after clocking an 11:23 while senior Victoria Fratczak finished 10th with a time of 11:33.
