Stillwater, Okla. -- Senior Chelsea Garcia went 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored, and sophomore designated player Tarah Ettinger hit a grand slam as the Oklahoma State softball team defeated St. Gregory's 12-6 here Tuesday night in fall softball action.
Ten different Cowgirls had at least one hit in a single 10-inning game. Senior Julie Ward went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in while freshman Shelby Davis went 2-for-3 with three runs scored.
Oklahoma State trailed three times in the game before exploding for a five-run sixth inning. Along with Ettinger's slam down the left-field line, Garcia also drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Sophomore Morgan Hawkins got the start for OSU in the circle and threw five innings, allowing four hits (just one earned) on five hits. Fellow sophomore Simone Freeman threw the final five innings, allowing two hits on a home run by Autumn Brown, who went 3-for-4 with five RBIs for the Cavaliers. Freeman also struck out 11 batters, including six straight to end the game.
Oklahoma State will return to action on Thursday evening as the Cowgirls host Oklahoma Baptist in one 10-inning game at the Cowgirl Softball Complex.
