Four Cowgirls Advance To Finals In AQHYA World Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.-- Four Oklahoma State equestrian members advanced to
the finals of the American Quarter Horse Youth Association World
Championships in Oklahoma City this weekend. Sophomore Katie Ralph and
freshmen Katy Krshka and Lindsay McMullen all advanced to the final round of
the Horsemanship competition. The threesome is part of a final 15 remaining
in the discipline. Freshman Kaitlin Townsend earned a spot in the finals of
the Reining competition.
Ralph was a member of the 2010-11 Cowgirl squad. She highlighted her season
with a head-to-head victory over her Texas A&M counterpart in Stillwater.
Krshka is an AQHYA World Champion and a 4 time Reserve World Champion in
Western Horsemanship, Hunt Seat Equitation and Showmanship. She is an 11
time All American Quarter Horse Congress Champion and has 5 All-Around
Congress titles to her name. Katy represented the United States last summer
at the AQHYA World Cup and brought home 3 Gold Medals for her Country.
McMullen has had numerous top 10 finishes at the AQHYA World Championships
including taking home the bronze trophy in Western Horsemanship in 2010.
Lindsey is a four time All- American Quarter Horse Congress Champion and has
won numerous Reserve Congress Championships and top ten finishes. She has
been in the top five and top ten of the AQHYA national year-end high point
standings in Showmanship, Horsemanship, Equitation and Trail.
The sole reiner to sign with the cowgirls this fall, Townsend competed at
the AQHYA World Championships in 2010 and placed 9th in 2009.
The competition began with 169 riders in Horsemanship and 118 in Reining,
with the Pokes outlasting their opponents throughout the weekend. The final
rounds are set for Tuesday afternoon.
