STILLWATER, Okla. – Kyndall Treadwell's goal just over five minutes in lifted No. 5 Oklahoma State to a 1-0 win over Oral Roberts Tuesday night at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.
The Cowgirls improved to 5-0-0 with the win, which also saw them record their fourth shutout of the season. OSU has now outscored its opponents 11-1 on the year.
“ORU game-planned very well, defended well and their kids played hard; they probably deserved to get something out of tonight's game,” said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael, who earned his 99th-career victory. “We're disappointed with our performance and preparation. Maybe the early goal made us think it was going to be an easy game…
“We'll take the shutout because if we don't get that, we might not have gotten the win.”
OSU's offensive attacked peppered the Golden Eagles with shots throughout the match as the Cowgirls outshot ORU by a 25-5 margin.
Just 2 ½ minutes in, the Cowgirls misfired on the first of several golden opportunities when Treadwell fired a shot off a perfect pass from Krista Lopez that was saved off by an ORU defender.
Treadwell would convert her next chance, however, as she took a throw-in from Sarah Brown and blasted a shot from 10-yards out past ORU goalie Amanda Wheeler. The goal was the first of the season for the Cowgirl senior.
OSU kept on the attack but could not find the back of the net again as Wheeler finished with 11 saves.
The Golden Eagles' best chance to score came in the 62nd minute when a Whitney Booth shot from 40-yards out sailed just over the crossbar.
OSU returns to action Friday when they travel to Omaha, Neb., to take on Creighton at 7 p.m.
