Cowgirls Battle SMU To Draw

DALLAS -- Oklahoma State tied SMU, 1-1, in a preseason exhibition match Saturday night at Westcott Field.

"We played reasonably well," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "It was a decent exhibition game. Both teams played some good soccer. We had four or five things that went well, and there were four or five things we need to work on. But that's why you play the game. We came out of it healthy, and we're ready for the season to start next week."a

Annika Niemeier netted the first goal of the match 32 minutes in as the Cowgirl midfielder scored from six-yards out off an assist from Megan Marchesano.

OSU held the 1-0 lead until the 66th minute as the Mustangs recorded the equalizer when Kenzie Scovill knocked in a rebound of a shot by Amelia Ambrose.

SMU outshot the Cowgirls by an 11-10 margin with OSU All-American goalie AD Franch recording four saves.

OSU opens the regular season Friday when it hosts TCU at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
