Houchin, Blumer Finish Fifth in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma State equestrian athletes Rachel Houchin and Jenna Blumer competed at the National Reining Horse Association Collegiate Reining Championship at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City on Saturday, as each rider scored 212 to finish in tie for fifth place.
“I was really proud of the way both girls performed at the event,” coach Larry Sanchez said. “Rachel rode very well, but had a penalty that impacted her score, and Jenna did a great job on a difficult horse. Both girls represented Oklahoma State well and they are both great ambassadors for our program.”
The scores at the event, which annually features the top 12 collegiate reiners from across the country, are determined by three judges. Houchin received scores of 70, 70, 72 for her total while Blumer scored 72, 68.5, 71.5. Their total scores of 212 were only six points behind the overall champion.
