STILLWATER, Okla. - Rachel Houchin and Jenna Blumer of the Oklahoma State equestrian team have been selected to compete in the prestigious National Reining Horse Association Collegiate Reining Championship in Oklahoma City this weekend. Caroline Daniels was also listed as the first alternate.
The event, featuring the top 12 collegiate reiners in the country, is part of the NRHA Derby. It is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Oklahoma State Fair Arena.
Blumer, from Spring Brook, Pa., just wrapped up her freshman season at OSU with seven wins on the year, while Houchin, from Monument, Colo., is coming off of an 11-4-1 reining mark in her junior season. Both riders also finished with winning records at the 2011 Varsity Equestrian National Championships last April.
"Rachel and Jenna are two very talented individuals and I am looking forward to them representing Oklahoma State at this prestigious event," coach Larry Sanchez said. "We hope that one of them will continue the tradition set by Kristen Dickerson and Leah Kuehn, who won this event in 2004 and 2008, respectively."
