Erassa Advances at USA Junior Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Oklahoma State track and field athlete Kirubel Erassa advanced to the men's 1,500 final at the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday as he turned in the fourth-fastest time in his semifinal heat.
Erassa, who did not compete for the Cowboys during the 2011 outdoor season, ran a personal-best time of 3:57.67 in the event to finish just in front of Kentucky's Matthew Hillenbrand and qualify for Saturday's final round.
The Grayson, Ga., native is one of two Cowboys scheduled to run Saturday, as Erassa and Matthew McElroy are also entered in the men's 5,000 meters.
The 1,500 meters final is slated for 6:40 p.m. PST with the 5,000 meters final following at 8:30 p.m. PST. The meet, featuring some of the best talent in the world, is hosted at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field and runs June 23-26.
